Rural Economy & Empowerment

Structuring the local economy to secure the financial independence of island communities.

Financial Independence as a Driver

Financial independence is the indispensable driver of sustainable community development. In an island context where access to traditional banking services is virtually non-existent for the majority of the population, we have established adapted microfinance structures. Through the creation of Mutual Solidarity Funds (MUSO) and Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA/AVEC), we enable farmers, particularly women, to build savings, access micro-credit, and launch income-generating activities. These groups also strengthen social cohesion and resilience in the face of economic shocks.

"Women's economic empowerment is the cornerstone of eradicating poverty within households."
