Who We Are

CPR Idjwi-3rd CBCA is a support organization for local development actions established by the ECC/3rd CBCA (officially registered in 1964). Our mission is to accompany the communities of Idjwi towards sustainable improvement of their living conditions and the reinforcement of their resilience.

To serve disadvantaged communities by delivering concrete solutions in food security, agroecology, environmental protection, education, and health.

Our History

Established by the CBCA and officially registered by Presidential Decree in 1964, CPR Idjwi has guided local development and community education on the island for 60 years.

Our Areas of Intervention

CPR Idjwi operates holistically across 6 strategic pillars to accompany communities and strengthen their local resilience.

Agroecology

Food Security

Supporting smallholder farmers through the establishment of certified seed fields, the distribution of disease-resistant crop varieties (cassava, banana), and the promotion of zero-grazing livestock systems (revolving livestock credits).

Climate & Soils

Environmental Protection

Ecosystem restoration and climate mitigation. Agroforestry reforestation covers over 350 hectares along the shores of Lake Kivu, alongside anti-erosion terraces and hedgerows for 3,500 households.

Social Finance

Rural Economy

Promoting financial autonomy through 123 Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLA) and Mutual Solidarity Funds (MUSO). These initiatives have financed over 1,380 micro-income-generating activities.

Scolarisation

Education & Training

Literacy training for over 6,000 adults through 32 Reflect literacy circles. Academic scholarships awarded to indigenous Pygmy children and university scholarships to 180 young women and girls in Idjwi to foster social inclusion.

Healthcare & Water

Community Health

Management of the Bugarula Rural Referral Hospital and support for child nutrition (CMAM). Development of 4 major gravity-fed water networks and capped 280 clean water springs to guarantee safe drinking water.

Media & Rights

Good Governance

Civic awareness, citizen participation, and peace education through our Rural Community Radio of Idjwi (broadcasting to over 55% of the population). Combating gender-based violence and promoting positive masculinity.
